PARENT LINKS
Discovery Education has a page dedicated for parents of students. This site provides information on all subject in school. In the math section, it provides information about various math concepts and skills organized by topics. There is also a homework help section where you can receive help about a certain math problem you and your student are not sure of the answer or process of how to solve it. The downfalls to this website are it contains many advertisements and some of the information is not clear. However it is a great tool for parents to have.

SoftSchools is a resource with an abundant amount of mathematical topics and concepts. This site can be used for students to practice various math skills online, although it is not very interactive or fun. Soft Schools provides lessons and worksheets about each concept organized by topics. The lessons are very detailed and contain examples and the worksheets can be printed for your child to have extra practice. The only downfall is that there is not an answer key for the worksheets.

Exploring the Value of the Whole
This lesson uses tan grams to explore fraction relationships between various shapes. It primarily focuses on the relationship between parts and the whole. It is a hands-on investigation of fractions using the tan gram manipulatives with guided questions for students to answer. In the classroom, I would use this lesson to enforce the relationship between parts and the whole. I would group the students in pairs so they can have mathematical conversation about the concept. At home, parents can find cut out versions of tan grams to practice with their child especially if a child is struggling with fractions.

Making and Investigating Fraction Strips
This lesson allows students to actively create their own fraction strips to explore more with equivalent fractions. The students will be engaged in the lesson by following the teacher's instructions on how to create their fraction strips and also answering critical thinking questions along the way. Through this lesson, students should notice patterns and be able to discover generalizations about fractions and their equivalencies. This lesson could be replicated at the student's home if the parents are able to walk their child through it because it uses simple materials found in most households.

Investigating Fraction Relationships with Relationship Rods
Students will use fraction rods to explore the relationship between fractions. The teacher should allow students to individually explore with the fraction rods to determine if they can find any patterns or relationships on their own. A worksheet is provided with this lesson which contains question in which students must use rods to determine the solution and relationships. This activity can be individual or partners and the teacher should allow the students to find answers by exploring and teacher should only answer questions when needed. For home use, the teacher would have to check out the relationship rods to students. The rods can be used to do homework problems if the student still requires a visual.
