Multiplication Stories
This lesson provides students with practice with factors in multiplication facts. I would use this lesson before the unit of factoring to prepare my students with a review of multiplication facts. The students are required to write word problems using multiplication with various numbers. I would modify this lesson by having students only use numbers higher than 5 because that is most students weaker multiplication facts. On the link attached there is also a game involving a spinner in which students must know a multiplication problem to an answer which was selected. The spinner game can be used at home to practice a student's multiplication fact skills. Multiplication facts play a key role in factoring so students must be adequate at this skill before moving on.

The Venn Factor
With a partner, students will be given two numbers which they must determine all of the factors for each. Then the students will place all of the numbers into the correct location in the Venn diagram. This activity allows students to practice finding factors and helps them determine the greatest common factor in a unique way. I would use this lesson after I have already taught students basics of factoring. Another part of the lesson is taping various questions under random students' desks to ask at the end of class to check understanding. Parents, at home, can also use this lesson to help their child practice factoring and greatest common factor, all the materials are included online.

Factor Findings
In this lesson, factor posters will be created by students for a variety of numbers to provide students with a reference to utilize throughout the school year. Students will first explore finding factors by using graph paper, color tiles, and factor rainbows. The teacher will guide students through each exploration and then assign each student a number in which they must factor. On the poster, students must show each representation of the factors for their number. This activity allows students to utilize many techniques for factoring individually. At home, parents can practice these techniques with their child and also can do a create project with them such as a flip book.
